An Excellent Anniversary!

Yesterday was John and my sixth wedding anniversary. I can't believe it's been six years! I think I say that every anniversary though :) It truly amazes me how time flies, I especially feel like this past year has flown by. It seems insane that this is my second summer in NY!

Anyway, for our anniversary John surprised me and took me to my favorite brunch place. It's in our old neighborhood so we never go anymore. After brunch he had another surprise and wouldn't tell me where we were going, we just got on the subway and went. He took me to the Brooklyn Botanical Garden but since it was a surprise it was making me really nervous how long we were on the subway. I kept asking John if he was sure he knew where we were going :)
I've wanted to go to the botanical gardens for a while; they are supposed to have a really fantastic Christmas display and I love flowers in general. The downside to this outing being a surprise was that John didn't mention that I might want my camera :( I had my Iphone so that's what all of the pictures are from. He said we could come back another time and bring our good camera, I'll have to hold him to that :)The Brooklyn Botanical Garden happened to be having a bee party on Saturday so there were lots of bee themed activities for kids and honey tastings and even a concert on the big lawn. The gardens themselves were amazing enough. The picture above is the rose garden and each of the roses had a plaque identifying it and when it was introduced. I don't know if you can read the plaque below but the "Alice Hoffman" rose was introduced in 1897! Having grown up in Arkansas I really have a hard time processing how old some of the things in and around NY are :)
The last picture is of a water lily pond with a couple of ducks. Living in Manhattan I don't really see any kind of birds besides pigeons, it's definitely nice to get out now and again :)
