Mmm, Brunch

Oh how I love this new thing brunch; its at every restaurant on the weekends and some on weekdays. The good ones are fixed prices and include a fancy drink. My favorite brunch place is pretty close to our apartment and so far has the cheapest brunch we've found. For $11.95 you get an entree, coffee or tea, and orange juice or a mimosa. Most restaurants are $14 and up, so $11.95 is pretty great and I love their food. I always get the eggs benedict and its so delicious, by far the best eggs benedict I've had (I haven't really had a ton of eggs benedict though so don't hate me if for some reason you happen to go and hate them).

The picture is the view across the street from Rafaella on Ninth which is our brunch spot. I took the picture while sitting at my table inside. I just thought it was kind of a cool.

Coke

For those of you who know me, you know that I drink a lot of coke, or at least I used to. Before moving to NY I drank about 3 sodas in an average day. When we moved to NY I found out very quickly how expensive it was to get soda in a restaurant. At $2 a soda with no free refills, drinking coke adds more to the bill than you expect. The other new roadblock to my coke addiction is that when you buy a case of coke you then have to carry it how ever many blocks back to your apartment and as in our case up four flights of stairs. So now I don't drink coke when we go out and I only buy coke when John is with me at the grocery store (so he can carry it up all those stairs). I'm down to having a coke about once every three days now. Its really weird to write that considering how much coke I drank just a couple of months ago and I can't say that I really miss it either (and yes I know this sounds like I'm writing about a drug addiction).

Oh my!

I don't really know what to say about this, I just wanted to share :)

John and I saw these people around Times Square the other day when we went to see Wicked. They were protesting all the cars and saying something about saving the planet by riding bikes.

I love the tiny British flag speedo, that just cracks me up.

Wicked

I've been wanting to see Wicked since I found out we were going to move to NY. Since its such a popular show though its never discounted and John and I have only been going to shows that we could get cheaper tickets to. I even managed to get discount tickets to the Lion King!

For our anniversary my super awesome husband, knowing that I was dying to see Wicked, got us tickets. We went to dinner and then to see the show and we even got to dress up which he normally protests to. The show was great! The story was really interesting and the actors were amazing. The voices on those ladies, whew.

Happy Anniversary!

Five years ago today John and I got married. I can't believe its been that long! We've definitely been through a lot and now here we are in NY. I just thought I'd share a couple pictures from when we were young and skinny :)

Chrisite's

So what does a girl who doesn't have a job do in New York City.....go look at jewelry at Christie's!

How could I pass up an opportunity to see a $3.5 million diamond? I couldn't, but I clearly went just to look. The highlight was not the insanely expensive diamond but a diamond ring that was 46 carats! It was unbelievable. I can't imagine wearing a ring that gigantic, wouldn't you knock things over?

The pictures are from the website and don't do the size justice. In reality the blue diamond is a quarter of the size of the yellow diamond which my friend and I decided is a little bit larger than a cheez-it.

Food Fun

John and I went to L'Ecole the other day, the restaurant associated with the French Culinary Institute. It was so yummy! We went because they have a five course price fixed dinner which included an appetizer, fish course, meat course, digestive salad, and dessert. By the time we got to the dessert I was completely stuffed and I hadn't even eaten all my fish. I think we were supposed to eat a lot slower so the food actually had time to digest but, we're not French and we apparently eat quickly. The food was great nonetheless but I've realized I need a fancy food glossary. There were several things on the menu I had never heard of before.

I've really been trying to enjoy living in NY and broadening my taste for food. We've been going to different restaurants that have foods that we never would've been exposed to in Arkansas. L'Ecole was definitely one of those places. Apparently even the cuts of beef are different here in NY. I see hanger and skirt steak on menus all the time here, never in Arkansas. John had duck consomme for an appetizer and branzino for his fish course. I've never heard of branzino (its European sea bass in case you were wondering) and I've certainly never been anywhere that served duck consomme. For those of you who know me also know that I don't eat seafood. Me having a fish course as part of my meal is a little out of the ordinary but like I said, I'm trying.
